Location

The Michael King Writers’ Centre is based in the historic Signalman's House on Takarunga Mt Victoria in Devonport.

The house has panoramic views over the Waitemata Harbour. It is a quiet retreat, but is close to the lively Devonport Village and ferries to Auckland city. It is ideally located for research and writing.

The Signalman's House is half way up the road to the summit of Takarunga Mt Victoria. The entrance to the summit road is off Kerr Street, just past the turnoff from Victoria Road. Keep going up the road to the summit, past the creche and school. About half way up the summit road, there is green house (on the left) almost opposite an old tennis court. The green house is the Michael King Writers' Centre.

Please note that there is limited parking on the road to the summit of Mt Victoria. There is usually room for two cars on the driveway of the centre. Visitors can park at the base of the mountain, on Kerr Street or in Devonport village. If you have a disability or a problem getting to the centre, please let us know.

The centre is open by appointment. Staff work part-time. Please contact the Manager to organise an appointment or arrange a group visit.
