War Talk: Philip Braithwaite and Geoff Allen

08 March 2015 - 4 pm

Two prominent NZ playwrights talk about the challenges of writing about World War One.

Philip Braithwaite’s The War Play, opening at Fortune Theatre in Dunedin soon, explores how the tragedy and injustice of war can reverberate through the generations.

Local writer Geoff Allen’s play Sister Anzac looks at the experience of NZ nurses at Gallipoli on the hospital ship Maheno. Its second season at the Navy Museum also opens soon.

They will discuss what drew them to their stories, the pitfalls of writing history and the challenges of bringing war to the stage. They also have some views on what’s happening in the world, one hundred years on from the war to end all wars.

This is a special In Conversation event. Please join us for a thought-provoking literary chat over a glass of wine.
