In Conversation: Diane Brown and Deborah Shepard

03 November 2015 - 7 pm

Piquant, frank, open, wistful, tender, funny…Diane Brown’s latest book Taking My Mother to the Opera marshals deeply personal events and childhood memories in a poetic narrative that is marbled with New Zealand social history.

Diane was one of the first writers to hold a residency at the Michael King Writers’ Centre in Devonport. She has written two volumes of poetry, two novels, a travel memoir and a prose/poetic work Here Comes Another Vital Moment. She lives in Dunedin with her husband, author Philip Temple, and she runs her own writing school.

Diane returns to the Michael King Writers’ Centre to discuss her new book with memoirist, biographer, film and art historian, and life writing mentor Deborah Shepard. Deborah is a renowned teacher of the art and craft of writing memoir.

These are two writers at the height of their powers. Join them for a stimulating conversation about Diane’s new book and the challenges of writing memoir.

Presented with support from Paradox Books and Devonport New World supermarket.
