Open afternoons for NZ Book Month 2013 - MKWC and Sargeson House

24 March 2013 - 1 pm to 4 pm

Bring your friends and family and celebrate NZ Book Month with a visit to the Michael King Writers’ Centre and hear some of Devonport’s local poets and writers read. Writers will include our current writer in residence Deborah Shepard, visiting writer Scott Bainbridge (who writes about NZ criminal cold cases), poet Sonja Yelich and novelist Tessa Duder.

The centre will be open from 1 pm to 4 pm and the readings will be from 2 pm, followed by tea and coffee.

Look around the historic house Signalman’s House, enjoy the garden and the views, and look through the collection of literary and historical memorabilia.

The open day is hosted by the Devonport Friends of the Michael King Writers’ Centre. This is a free event and all are welcome.

Check here for details on how to find us.

The Frank Sargeson House on Esmonde Road has an open day on the same afternoon, from 2 pm to 4 pm. Visitors interested in New Zealand's literary history would be able to visit both places in the course of the afternoon.

Poet Kevin Ireland will speak about living in the old army hut behind Frank's house and what Frank meant to him.

The Sargeson House is located at 14a Esmonde Road, Takapuna. Parking is on Eldon Street.
