MKWC Young Writers Programme success

29 April 2016

Congratulations to MKWC Young Writer, Joanna Li, from Diocesan School for Girls, who has been selected as a winner of a NZ Society of Authors Youth Mentorship for 2016.  She will work on a project, Never Felt Like Home, that focuses on the experiences of two teenagers, one Chinese and the other Iraqi.

This is the third year in a row that one of the Young Writers Programme alumni has been awarded one of these coveted mentorships.  In 2014, Sophie van Waardenberg,  and 2015, Amelia Kendall, both from St Cuthberts College, were given opportunities to work with established NZ authors.

All three students have have been published in the YWP literary journal, Signals.

You can see and hear Joanna reading some of her work in the clips on the MKWC facebook page, at the Poets’ Picnic on 1st February this year
