Recollections 2017

26 May 2017

I first met Michael in 1967 at Victoria University when we had both signed up for a New Zealand History paper. His very clever sense of humour came to the surface immediately when we were trying to organise times for our study groups. Someone suggested a particular time and Michael stood up immediately saying, "No, sorry that time conflicts with the class I am doing on Medieval English - verily." Those were the first words I heard him speak and over the 40 or so years that I knew him I heard many more clever bits of repartee. If humour is a sign of intelligence then Michael sure had plenty.
