Wensley Willcox

A journalist and poet, Wensley was a founding trustee and a major force in the development of the Michael King Writers’ Centre. She served as a trustee for nearly 10 years and Deputy Chair for several years. She took a major role in the establishment of the annual residential workshop.  She was awarded the Queens Service Medal in 2012 for her services to literature. Earlier Wensley worked in the not-for-profit sector in positions as regional Citizens’ Advice Bureau co-ordinator, YWCA Board, and journalist/librarian for the Mental Health Foundation. She has held office at branch and national levels for the Society of Authors (Pen NZ Inc).

The centre aims to promote all aspects of New Zealand's literature, including fiction and non-fiction, and to recognise Michael King's stature as a writer, historian, biographer and someone who helped New Zealand understand its cultural roots.
