Cassie (Kāi Tahu/Pākehā) is an award winning author, editor, and mentor living under the watchful gaze of Taranaki Maunga. She writes primarily adult speculative fiction and personal essays, but loves stories for all ages. Working as a youth librarian means she can live and breathe story in all parts of her life.

When she isn’t living in other worlds, she loves to be out in te taiao, especially with her kurī, Harlow, or with her whānau.

Our seventh writer-in-residence for the year, Cassie is working on a novel told in five voices, a searing exploration of female rage, friendship, and obsession—of the way secrets bind and isolate, of the ache to belong and the terror of what it costs.
