Emma, (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Māmoe, Waitaha) is a writer living and working in Taranaki. Her first book of short fiction, Ruin, was published in 2023 with Te Herenga Waka University Press and won the Hubert Church Best First Book of Fiction at the 2024 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Her latest short story “Wombat” was an honourable mention in the 2025 American Association of Australasian Literary Studies competition for Indigenous Writers, and was published in Antipodes. Emma was a very grateful recipient of a Paemanu Summer Residency and a CNZ Ngā Manu Pirere Award in 2025. During her residency this year she will be working on her novel.
