Andrea (Te Aupōuri, Te Rarawa, Ngati Pakeha ) is the author of The Vanishing Point (Ultimo Press, 2023) a historical fiction novel exploring the enduring potency of a famous painting: artist Diego Velázquez’s Las Meninas (1656). She co-authored (with Priscilla Pitts) Undreamed of: 50 Years of the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship (OUP 2017), which was long-listed for the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards, 2018.
With a passion for historical research, writing and art, Andrea has held a range of roles with a common theme of investigation and storytelling. She holds a BA (hons) in history from the University of Otago, a PGDip Journalism from the University of Canterbury, and studied creative writing at the Creative Hub, Auckland. She grew up in Koputai/Port Chalmers and lives in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland.
During her residency, Andrea plans to work on the draft of her third novel. This braided tale centres on the kuaka/godwit, touching on journeys large and small, and art.
