Bianca Zander’s first novel The Girl Belowcame out in the US and New Zealand in 2012 to widespread critical acclaim. It will be released in the UK in February 2013. She is an established journalist, contributing to a wide range of publications, including The Sunday Star Times, Dominion Post, Next and Little Treasures. For two years she was a staff writer on the NZ Listener magazine. Zander has produced radio shows and written for film and television. In 2004, she wrote and co-directed the critically-acclaimed short documentary The Freedom Flat, and in 2009, wrote the dramatic short film The Handover, which screened in competition at the Chicago Film Festival. In 2012, she was awarded the Creative New Zealand Louis Johnson New Writers’ Bursary towards the completion of her second novel The Predictions.
