Dani, our fifth writer-in-residence for 2024 is a wellington-based writer of poetry, essays, scripts and short fiction. They completed their Masters of Creative Writing at the International Institute of Modern Letters in 2021, and their debut collection, Transposium, was published by Auckland University Press in October 2023. Their work also appears in various journals and publications, such as Sweet Mammalian, Starling, Bad Apple, takahē, Turbine | Kapohau and The Spinoff.
The project they will be working on while in residence is a hybrid poetry and essay collection inspired by Dr R. Kedzie’s 1874 Shadows From the Walls of Death; a deadly piece of archival history involving arsenic-laced wallpapers, a rogue attempt at medical activism, dancing skeletons and Leviticus.
