Jordan Hamel is a Pōneke-based writer, poet and performer. He grew up in Timaru on a healthy diet of Catholicism and toxic masculinity.

He was the 2018 New Zealand Poetry Slam champion and represented Aotearoa at the World Poetry Slam Champs in the USA. He is the co-editor of everyone’s favourite lockdown journal Stasis alongside Sinead Overbye and co-editor of a forthcoming Climate Change Poetry Anthology from Auckland University Press.

He has poems and stories published in the Poetry NZ Yearbook, Landfall, Newsroom, takahē, Sport, and elsewhere. He occasionally writes about tv music and other pop culture nonsense for The Spinoff. He’s very excited about his residency and can already feel the imposter syndrome sinking in. His residency project is a short story collection.

Jordan’s debut poetry collection recently became available for pre-order, the link is here.
