Summer Writers Residency
1000 1000 Michael King Writers Centre

Steve is working on his third full-length collection of poetry that explores the climate of reproach and apology that pervades our public discourse today and says “the Michael King Writers Centre commands an unrivalled view of the city and the surrounding harbour, is a few minutes’ walk from the vibrant little community of Devonport, and yet provides the kind of meditative solitude necessary to get serious work done. Can you ask for a better spot to begin writing a new book?” His residency is our third for the year.

Steve was born in Chicago in 1986. In 2011, he immigrated to New Zealand and currently lives with his wife, the writer Eleanor Catton, in Auckland. He holds graduate degrees in poetry from the Iowa Writer’s Workshop and the International Institute of Modern Letters and in philosophical theology from Jesus College, Cambridge. His books include The Bellfounder (2015) and Fiddlehead (2014).
