The Michael King Writers’ Centre is pleased to offer workshops on writing memoir with author, film and art historian, and life writing mentor Deborah Shepard.
Deborah is the author of several critically-acclaimed books about the contribution of women to the arts in New Zealand and her own memoir, Giving Yourself to Life: A Journal of Pain, Hope and Renewal, has just been released by Calico Publishing. Her next work will be about the art and craft of memoir.
Deborah is a highly-regarded teacher of life writing, with years of experience. She has taught courses through the Centre for Continuing Education at The University of Auckland since 2006, is a life writing mentor for the New Zealand Society of Authors and is consultant biographer for Mercy Hospice.
In 2014, Deborah ran a series of master classes on writing memoir at the Michael King Writers Centre for adults with writing experience. She also led a series of classes, an introduction to memoir and life writing, for beginner writers.
In March 2015 Deborah ran a six weeks Introduction to memoir which was fully subscribed.
In 2016 Deborah ran an over-subscribed six week master class on Tuesday evenings from early April.
