Katharine Derrick lives in Kerikeri and writes mainly for children and young adults. She once had a fifty-word story published in Brian Edwards’ Book of Incredibly Short Stories but most of her published works are with educational media (Learning Media and Shortland Publications). She has also been published online in Flash Frontier as Kathryn Jenkins. Katharine has completed the NorthTec Applied Writing Diplomas to Level 7, a Graduate Certificate in Children’s Literature through Edith Cowan University, and in 2017 was awarded a Masters in Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh. She has also organised a number of writing workshops and conferences, including the NorthWrite series which has gained national recognition and success.
